The holidays are a great time to boost food and beverage sales. It’s the time of year when people are spending money on presents and travel, and typically stop to grab a bite to eat between errands. Being able to attract them with fresh ideas and refreshing bites is important. Here are a few tips to help you promote your restaurant during the holidays.

  1. Offer a family meal package

A lot of families will be out and about together during the holidays. One way to attract them to your restaurant is offering a family meal for a bundle price. It makes them feel like they’re getting a deal and saving some money at the same time.

  1. Promote gift card sales

How many times have you received a gift card in your Christmas stocking? Or as a gift in general? They are easy to purchase and easy to use, making them a win-win for both your customer and your business. Plus, every gift card purchased nearly guarantees a future customer. This gives you another chance to showcase your exceptional atmosphere and world-class staff.

  1. Offer catering service

Even if your restaurant doesn’t typically have a catering service, offering one to your customers during the holidays is a great way to spread the word about your business. It can also be a great market research tool. How many customers ask for catering? How big are the parties you serve? These can be indicators that your restaurant needs to offer catering year round.

  1. Host a charity dinner

The holiday season is known as a time for giving. This time of year, people are thinking about others more than usual. Hosting a charity dinner can help your community get into the holiday spirit. Have a donation box for a local charity, or offer a percentage of ticket sales as a donation. This will encourage your customers to spend more and make them feel like they’ve contributed to someone else’s happiness during the holiday season.

  1. Add more staff

There are always people who need to make some extra money to buy gifts or see their family during the holidays, even if they don’t need the job after the season. Adding seasonal workers can ensure your restaurant offers the same hospitality during its busiest time of the year and creating a fixed time period contract for employment will allow everyone to part happily when things slow down in January.

  1. Start marketing in late October to early November

Many restaurants will start marketing their holiday deals in early December in hopes to attract customers later that month. Unfortunately, this is a bad strategy. Why? People typically start planning their holiday rendezvous in November or earlier. Think about it. Between November and the end of the year there is Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, and New Year’s. That’s a lot to plan for. The earlier you begin marketing your holiday deals, the more sales you will have.
